Music Review: Pink Floyd Animals
And watching… For pigs on the wing.
Pink Floyd animals is a record I been listening to since I was a teenager… I’ll get tired of it but usually pull it out again at least once a year to study it some more. And even though it wasn’t the most popular pink floyd record it is one of my all time favorites.
Starting with pigs on the wing it calls you in for more to hear with a simple guitar pattern and Roger Waters longing vocals.. It’s very eerie really.. Then comes Dogs which was the rest of the first side of the album when it was on vinal. (Remember record albums)
Dogs, a song about political dogma ( I assume) has David Gilmore singing until the end where Roger Waters takes over the vocals to the end…The guitar solo’s are incredible with sustain. It has a keyboard break which takes you to space with trademark pink floyd sound effects. (dogs barking)… I love the drums during this part…Innovative and simple.
Side 2 starts with “Pigs 3 different ones” which is a bizarre song complete with pig noises and Roger Waters typical sarcastic political rants . Love that echoing keyboard.
Sheep is the next song starting with a simple keyboard solo to the backdrop of sheep sound effects. This leads into a haunting vocals about alienation and escape… (I think) “Get out of yer road if you wanna grow old” This ends in a powerful guitar pattern that fades into the sheep sound effects…
I bet your “dragged down by the stone” by now huh?
And any fool knows a dog needs a home… A shelter…From pigs on the wing….
