TV Review: The Shield
The Shield on FX is in It’s last season. I have followed that show since stumbling upon it one night while channel surfing. I was a amazed at the level of violence and downright hard core stuff happening on a TV screen. It was right up my alley.
Vic Mackey is a good cop/dirty cop with a heart.. Or that’s what I get out of it. He seems to be bent on fighting crime but also likes to reap the benefits of the criminals he fights against. Then try’s to justify his behavior by “doing the right thing” for his kids family and society… He’s a rather twisted guy I guess…
His side kick, Shane, is simply a dumbass. But cares for his friend Vic deeply but appears he is trying to kill him this season. Shane is the one constantly screwing things up.
Then there is a “gay” black cop in the mix. He is also a Christian and attempts to suppress his gayness by going to church and being religious. This was an interesting story line when it first happened but then they simply let his character drift off into obscurity. Even though he is still a regular on the show.
There’s also the single parent cop that got pregnant during a fling with Vic. She hates him now and therefore is trying to keep him out of her Childs life…Which he will fight her over it.
Lastly there’s Dutch. He is a “regular” nerd cop with a big brain. He was the guy always getting picked on in school But he is smart and is able to make some big cases by his logic and placing himself in the mind of the criminal. His partner is now the chief of the police station and is herself an excellent detective but has trouble because of her battle with lupus.
You see…. I know all these people as well as I do any of my friends at church. What’s this world coming to…
